The Gambia Hosts the West Africa Postal Conference (WAPCO) 2026

The West Africa Postal Conference (WAPCO) 2026 officially commenced today at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJ-ICC), Banjul, bringing together postal sector leaders from across the West African sub-region.

The opening session was presided over by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Mr. Muhammad B.S. Jallow, and was attended by high-level officials and delegations from WAPCO Member States and The Gambia, underscoring the strategic importance of the postal sector in regional integration and development.

The Conference is being held from 9th to 12th February 2026 and comprises:

1. Council of Administration Meeting: 9th – 11th February 2026
2. Council of Ministers Meeting: 12th February 2026

In line with the WAPCO Convention, Member States are represented by delegations led by Ministers responsible for postal services, postal authorities, regulators, or other duly appointed representatives. As the host country, The Gambia will assume the chairs of the Council of Ministers for the next four (4) years.

WAPCO serves as a key regional platform for coordinating and promoting sustainable and coherent postal service development in West Africa, placing postal infrastructure at the heart of ECOWAS regional integration through postal reform initiatives, regulatory harmonization, and the implementation of a regional postal service master plan and framework.

Hosting WAPCO 2026 reflects The Gambia’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, advancing postal sector and courier service development, and supporting digital transformation for inclusive socio-economic growth across the sub-region.
