The president of  the Republic of The Gambia is H.E. Adama Barrow. Adama Barrow has been the President of The Gambia since January 19, 2017. He won the presidential election in December 2016, defeating long-time incumbent Yahya Jammeh. Barrow’s victory marked a significant moment in Gambian history, as it ended over two decades of Jammeh’s rule. Before entering politics, Barrow worked in real estate and as a businessman. His presidency has focused on democratic reforms, economic development, and improving human rights in The Gambia. He was re-elected for a second term in December 2021.

To apply for a visa to The Gambia, you need to complete a visa application form, provide a valid passport, recent passport-sized photos, and pay the required visa fee. The Gambia gained independence from the United Kingdom on February 18, 1965. Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara became the country’s first Prime Minister and later its first President when The Gambia became a republic within the Commonwealth on April 24, 1970, following a successful referendum. The independence marked the end of British colonial rule and the beginning of The Gambia’s journey as a sovereign nation. Since then, February 18 has been celebrated annually as Independence Day, a national holiday commemorating the country’s freedom and sovereignty.

 

To apply for a passport in The Gambia, visit the Department of Immigration’s office. You will need to fill out a passport application form, provide a valid ID, recent passport-sized photos, and pay the required fee. You may also need to provide proof of citizenship.
